Born in Germany to a family of printers, Gundolf started his commercial career with an apprenticeship in typesetting followed by a master class in photography. He then set-up his own multi-disciplinary design studio based on a holistic approach to commercial and fine art projects. Located in Germany and the US, he subsequently worked on a wide variety of assignments, including photography, product-, graphic- and interaction design and brand development.

Gundolf's track record of finding integrated creative solutions, caught the attention of Procter & Gamble, who approached him to collaborate with their global design team on Herbal Essences, a well established hair coloring brand.

Looking for a collaborator to establish and lead an in-house art department, Francis Ford Coppola hired Gundolf in 2001 to contribute his strategic skills and design leadership experience. As Creative Director for Coppola's portfolio of companies (winery, resorts, food, magazine, and cafes), Gundolf was instrumental in building and guiding an in-house team of designers, taking charge of all aspects of design and media communication, including product development, design and photography.

During his time at Coppola, Gundolf's creative output included a wide range of innovative and award winning concepts, products and design narratives.

In 2009 Gundolf relocated to San Francisco, where he continues to apply his distinct integrated approach towards image making to a wide range of commercial and fine art projects.
